First 5 LA Programs Overview PhotographTo pursue our three goals of Early Learning, Health, and Safe Children and Families, First 5 LA offers a variety of initiatives to improve the well-being of the population we serve.

For these efforts to be successful, we apply a consistent set of approaches and strategies we believe will ensure our actions work in concert to achieve the Commission’s overall vision.

These initiatives will be strengthened and created as appropriate with the involvement of communities across the county. They will also offer opportunities for individuals and communities to realize their dreams for a better future for their children.

Help Them Learn

A child’s early experiences and environments from prenatal through age 5 not only affect their development, but can actually alter the structure of their brain.

By addressing all aspects of development, First 5 LA’s Early Learning goal area aims to improve every child’s attainment of their developmental potential.

With a $700 million allocation to fund our mission, we are committed to supporting families to be their children’s first teachers and promote programs that have increased access to quality child care resources.

Keep Them Healthy

Numerous studies have substantiated the relationship between the importance of early childhood health and development on a child’s success in school and life.

First 5 LA’s Health goal area targets improving the access to and the quality of health resources for pregnant women, young children, and their families.

With a $140 million allocation to fund our mission, we are dedicated to promoting the best possible health, developmental, and psycho-social outcomes.

Keep Them Safe

In order for children to develop optimally, they need to be in environments that are safe and protect them from violence, abuse, injuries, and neglect.

First 5 LA’s Safe Children and Families goal area focuses on strengthening family support so that they can safely raise their children.
