The agency provides congregate and home delivered meals, residential treatment for substance abuse, substance abuse services and services for older adults who live in Los Angeles County. Western Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90006 http://www.pcs-socal.org Funding For: Teaching to Enrich and Nurture Network (TEN) The purpose of this grant is to promote the idea of school readiness by creating centers and programs that offer an array of services, including early care and education, health and social services, parenting education and support. Programs will be responsive to local needs and will contain elements to improve schools' readiness for children. The target population resides in zip code 90011. Services will be provided to residents who live within zip code 90011. This community is comprised of predominately Latino (85%), African American (11%), Caucasian (1%), Asian Races (1%), and 2% identified as mixed or other races. The community is highly impoverished with the median family income being $23,554, which is 50% lower than the LA County average (Census 2000). There are 11,954 children living within the target zip code between the ages of birth and four years, (Census 2000). Children and families who live within this area are faced with tremendous challenges such as high rates of drug and alcohol addiction, poor and inadequate choices for housing, and impacted service systems such as the lack of no-cost and low-cost quality early care and education services, and access to appropriate medical services. The primary site for this program is the People Coordinated Services Family Resource Center. All School Readiness grants are 48 months in length across 5 fiscal years. Major program activities include Cross Curriculum Training, Family Resource Center services, case management, curriculum development, child and family assessments, creation of school readiness curriculum for ECE providers, three series of school readiness workshops; Special Needs, Exemplary Program Participation Workshops, and Family Childcare Homes and Private Child Development Center Workshops. |
