Head of Leading Early Childhood Advocacy Organization Looks Forward to Working with Speaker Rendon on Policies to Help Give L.A. County’s Kids the Best Start

LOS ANGELES– First 5 LA Executive Director Kim Belshé offered the following statement of congratulations to Assemblymember Anthony Rendon who was inaugurated today as the 70th Speaker of the California State Assembly:

“Congratulations to Speaker Rendon. The Assembly has selected a dynamic, thoughtful leader who understands that California is strongest when we invest in our youngest Californians. We know the Speaker appreciates the critical need to improve outcomes for young children by strengthening families, the communities in which they live, and the systems that support them.

“The Assembly has selected a dynamic, thoughtful leader” Kim Belshé

“It’s an exciting time for early childhood advocates in California. We share a top priority with the Speaker – rebuilding our state’s fractured and underfunded early learning system. Speaker Rendon understands that quality early education, family strengthening, and health services make the difference in a child’s life.

“We look forward to working with Speaker Rendon on the many challenges facing our youngest residents, and ensuring that California fully supports their early education and health needs.”

In early April, First 5 LA will take part in the Capitol Advocacy Day organized by the First 5 Association of California. The goal of the day is to help state legislators understand the need to prioritize young children in all policies. The Association’s 2016 policy agenda addresses family strengthening, early identification and intervention, oral health, quality early learning and system sustainability and reach.
