“You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

On Tuesday, December 12, First 5 LA Parents hosted a Facebook Q&A on “Cultivating Kindness” with special guest Sonia Smith-Kang. Sonia is the founder and designer of Mixed Up Clothing, a registered pediatric nurse, and a multiracial activist based in Los Angeles.

Sonia shared about the importance of teaching children to embrace others regardless of race, religion, ability or cultural heritage. She also answered questions from viewers covering a range of topics from bullying to helping young children channel their emotions in healthy ways, volunteerism and building resiliency. The Q&A, part of First 5 LA Parents’ #First5Live series, reached over 1,400 people and had over 200 comments during the live feed.

A few of the comments:

“Thank you both for GREAT ideas! Our children are our future and we as parents shall stop and take the time with them. Listen, play, love sincerely and much more even if we are so busy.” – Bertha Alamillo

“My goal in life as a parent is to raise children with love, heart and sincere words and actions.” – Amanda Saddler
