The Best Start Watts-Willowbrook booth was a big hit at the Resource and Information Fair last month where nearly 400 community residents and children gathered to learn about free and low-cost resources in the area. The focus of the day was literacy and school readiness, and the Best Start Watts-Willowbrook volunteers were happy to see children crowd around their booth to get a copy of the book “Potter the Otter: A Tale About Water” while anxiously waiting to meet Potter the Otter himself.

The event, held at the Drew Child Development Corporation, featured a wide range of agencies providing resources aimed at enriching the entire family including free crafts, puppet shows, health screenings and more.

“I just want to hug everybody and cry,” said one resident whose child received free books at the event. “I couldn’t have asked for more.”
