LOS ANGELES –First 5 LA today released the following statement from Executive Director Kim Belshé regarding the California State Senate and State Assembly’s passage of their proposed State Budget:

“We applaud the Assembly and the Senate for prioritizing California’s children in their state budget proposals. We thank the Legislature for their substantial proposed investments to increase access to critical child development services, and also build in important planks from the Governor’s proposed parent agenda in his budget.

“We look forward to working with the Governor and our Legislative leaders to help them make the best decisions for kids. From investments in family strengthening programs like home visiting to early learning services, our goal is to make sure that kids win in the final state budget agreement in June.”

Starting this week, a 10-member Budget Conference Committee will begin work to reconcile differences between the budgets from Governor Newsom, the Senate and the Assembly.
